“P.A.N.”, was curated by Winka Dubbeldam with Helene Furjan, and featured the work of five “young”, international architecture offices, active in Europe as well as in the United States, and are located in five major, urban centers on the two continents.
The five architecture offices form an open and dynamic network initially instigated by the Archi-Lab Conferences in Orleans, France. Frederic Migayroue, the Archi-Lab Curator at that time, had the specific agenda of encouraging the creation of new networks between the then upcoming architects.
The five participants do not so much share a philosophy regarding architecture, as that they share a certain attitude towards the discipline. Particular attention is paid to the inter-disciplinary fields, away from the conventional design processes and techniques and towards the areas where theory and practice overlap. The process of building is seen as an open and variable arena, encouraging the interaction between program and subject. Surprise, interactivity and fluidity are important features of the work of each participating architect, while the offices often function like laboratories.
