Here we add to Chelsea's art district a building extension on the corner of 20th street with the West Side Highway. The extension to the existing 19th century brick building brings a seven-story glass structure with large terraces wrapping its facade. A gap between existing and new features green gardens with cabanas and hot tubs.
The modulation of the glass volume results from an analysis of the inflections of the Sky Exposure Plan, and brings light to places that would not otherwise receive it. Spike Building's double-layered facade contains large outdoor terraces that filter sound and light to create comfortable living environments within, and foster generous views over the Hudson River.
